Starting the search for a wedding venue is not an easy task. It’s the location that will set the tone for your entire evening, and can seem overwhelming and difficult to take it all in.

Start your search early. This allows you to have a better chance of finding a location that meets all your needs while being available on your desired dates! Make sure to explore various venues ahead of time to see what will bring your vision to life!

When focusing on choosing a wedding venue, there are many things to keep in mind and take note of. For that reason, we’ve put together a list of 10 tips for you to keep in mind while looking for a venue, and what River Oaks has to offer. 1. Determine your budget or optimal cost for your wedding venue

When choosing your wedding venue, it’s important to determine your wedding budget and decide what percentage can be allocated to your venue. The budget and cost for your wedding is placed at the top because by prioritizing your budget you’ll be able to find a venue that fits your financial plan and gives you an evening to remember! When looking at different venues, it’s important to know that some venues include essential services in their pricing while others don’t. Also, it’s good to note that sometimes off season weddings and weddings that don’t fall on peak days can give you a lower price tag.

2. Availability for your desired wedding date

If you have a set date in which you want to get married, make sure to begin your search for a venue early. Many venues book up quickly, which limits your options as time looms closer to the date you wish to get married.

If you have flexibility for your date, starting your venue search early gives you plenty of options– and it means you can choose a date that aligns with the venue availability. Overall, whether fixed or flexible with your wedding date, it’s a great idea to start looking sooner rather than later. It gives you more options and increases your chances of finding the perfect venue for your special day.

3. Match your venue with your wedding theme

When you look for a wedding venue, it’s important to look for a space that will match your wedding theme. For example, if you are looking to have a rustic wedding, it might not work in an elegant hotel. Also, many venues have decorations you can use for your special day, so make sure the decorations they supply are to your liking… and If they aren’t check to see if they allow you to bring your own decorations!

At River Oaks, our event center is located adjacent to a golf course and rests right above the Mississippi River Valley. 4. Determine the size of your wedding guest list

Before looking at venues, it’s a great idea to determine how large your wedding will be. Reason being, if you have a smaller sized wedding at a larger venue, it may feel empty. If you have a larger wedding, you will need to make sure you don’t exceed the maximum capacity for the wedding venue. Having an estimate for wedding size will help narrow down venues that will work for you and your wedding!

5. For outdoor venues, is there a back up plan for bad weather?

If you are looking to plan an outdoor wedding, it’s important to ask about back up options and plans for inclement weather. Make sure to look into the back up options that the venue provides, and make sure the plan aligns with what you want for your wedding. This will ensure that you have a perfect and seamless celebration, no matter the weather.

At River Oaks, our weddings are outdoors, located next to the 18th hole on the golf course and in view of the Mississippi River Valley below. 6. What amenities are available at the venue?

When you look at different venues, make sure to pay attention to the amenities that are available at the venue (and check if they’re an additional cost). Make sure there is plenty of parking availability, event coordination, and see if they provide tables, chairs, and linens. Check to see if there’s bathroom access at the venue (some barns and beach weddings don’t provide this).

River Oaks is home to both a golf course and event center, and has many amenities for you to utilize on your wedding day. We have parking, a great event team, and we provide tables, chairs, and linens for your use. You will also have access to bathrooms on site, a menu from our chef you can utilize, and in the event center we have a bar ready for you and your guests to enjoy. 7. Do The logistics match what you envision for your wedding?

During your visit with the venue event staff, make sure to discuss the different logistical aspects of the wedding day. Things like how long you’ll have your rental, the set up and tear down times, curfew and noise restraints, and any other restrictions or rules that are imposed by the venue. Other logistics to look into is the availability of taxis in the area and whether or not the venue is near any lodging for out of town guests. This will help make sure your wedding day is smooth and seamless from beginning to end!

8. Vendor options at the wedding venue

While looking at different wedding venues, it’s important to note that some venues will allow you to use your own vendors while others want you to use vendors they have contracts with. If you want to choose your own vendors, make sure to choose a venue that will allow you to do so.

9. What does the wedding venue have to offer for accessibility for disabilities?

If you know either you or any guests in attendance will need additional accommodations or accessibility for disabilities, it’s a great idea to ask the venue to see what types of accommodations they have in place. Accessibility of entrances, exits, elevators (if needed), bathrooms, parking, and seating options are some examples to look into.

River Oaks is excited to announce the Senior Men’s Golf League for 2024! Golfers aged 55 and above are invited to join us for this popular league on either Tuesday or Wednesday mornings. Tee times start at 6:30 a.m., and you’ll play at the same time every week.

League dues are $90 and cover prizes, a GHIN Handicap, and a pre-season lunch. Payouts will be given in pro shop credits. Golfers are responsible for all green and cart fees before playing.

Returning players from 2023 can pre-register for tee times from January 8 to February 29. New players can join our waiting list and will be invited to fill open spots starting on March 8. Registration will be handled through Golf Genius Hub online.

Tuesday Couples League

River Oaks is introducing an exciting new offering for 2024: Couples Date Nights! Join us on select Tuesday nights throughout the summer for themed events packed with fun.

Your registration fee covers golf, cart, prizes, and a post-play dinner. Get into the spirit of the evening’s theme and you could win even more prizes!

Shotgun starts at 6:30 p.m., ensuring a prompt start to the festivities. Couples can register online three weeks before each event, with a limit of 36 couples per night. The entry fee is $100 plus tax per event, covering all the essentials for a fantastic evening on the course.

Each Date Night will feature a unique and enjoyable format, promising plenty of laughs and good times. Mark your calendars: registration for each event opens on March 1.

River Oaks is thrilled to introduce a 6-hole Junior League on Wednesday afternoons, tailored for more experienced young golfers.

Boys and girls aged 7 to 13 are encouraged to participate. Tee times are available between 1:30 and 3:36 p.m., with players assigned the same time slot each week. While players have the option to play up to 9 holes if time permits, the league primarily focuses on 6-hole rounds.

Each week, players will enjoy fun games similar to those featured in our adult leagues. However, please note that there will be no formal instruction provided during league sessions.

To ensure a positive experience for all participants, course monitors will be present to supervise play and enforce league standards. We look forward to welcoming junior golfers to River Oaks for an exciting season on the course!

Thursday Ladies League

River Oaks is excited to introduce the 2024 Thursday Ladies League! We extend a warm invitation to all female golf enthusiasts to join us for this highly anticipated league held on Thursday mornings. Tee Times start at 7:00, with a consistent weekly schedule for participants.

For a fee of $75, league members will benefit from a range of perks, including prizes, a GHIN Handicap, and a pre-season lunch.

Throughout the season, the league will feature both individual and team-based games, along with ongoing season standings to add an extra layer of excitement and competition.

Thursday Junior’s League

The Thursday Junior’s League is designed for kids aged 7 to 14 who already know the basics of swinging and golf manners. To be able to join this league, players need to finish nine holes in less than two hours. There won’t be any lessons, and we expect good behavior and proper etiquette on the course.

The league runs from June 13 to August 15. Players will tee off at the same time every week on Thursday mornings. The tee times range from 6:40 to 8:00 a.m.

Kids who played in the 2023 league get first dibs from January 15 to March 1. After that, any open spots are up for grabs on March 7, first-come, first-served!

It costs $225 per player, which covers green fees, post-game food, cool stuff, and prizes. Like the adult leagues, we will have weekly games, too!

Thursday Junior Instructional/ Play Combo League

Our Thursday Junior Instruction/Play Combo League is designed for those who are new to golf or want to improve!

Each week, we’ll kick off with a 25-minute session of instruction and practice drills. After that, it’s time to hit the tee and play six holes of golf!

Kids who played in the 2023 league have first dibs from January 15 to March 1. Any remaining spots will open up on March 7, first-come, first-served.

The cost is $325 per golfer, which covers a swag bag, instruction, green fees, range balls, and lunch after the game.

Saturday Morning Men’s Club

We’re welcoming golfers to join our Saturday Morning Men’s Club!

We offer a variety of events, including individual Stableford, low net/low gross, and quota games, as well as two-person games like Chapman, best ball, and team games featuring net best balls and Chicago points.

Tee times start around 7:00 a.m. on certain Saturday mornings. We use live scoring with Golf Genius, and prizes are given out as pro shop credit. Players need to cover green and cart fees, as well as a $10 event prize fund, before playing.
