Since its founding in 1991, River Oaks has grown from a vision for a high-quality public golf course into a premier destination for golf, weddings, events, and community gatherings in the Twin Cities area.

The story of River Oaks began with a clear purpose - to provide residents of Cottage Grove and the surrounding communities with access to a well-designed public golf course close to home. As demand for golf continued to grow in the area, local leaders saw an opportunity to create a facility that would serve both recreational and long-term community needs.

From the start, River Oaks was developed as an 18-hole public golf course designed to accommodate golfers of all skill levels. Its layout balanced playability with challenge, quickly establishing River Oaks as a go-to destination for daily play, leagues, and golf outings in the Cottage Grove area.

A major milestone came in the early 2000’s with the construction of a clubhouse, known today as Eagles Bar & Grill. This addition enhanced the overall golf experience by providing expanded guest services, indoor gathering space, and a central hub for golfers before and after their rounds. 

Alongside the clubhouse, River Oaks introduced its Event Center. The event center created new opportunities for River Oaks to host weddings & receptions, corporate events, and private gatherings of all sorts. This addition positioned River Oaks as more than just a golf course - it became a versatile venue capable of serving guests year-round.

In the years that followed, River Oaks continued to evolve through ongoing course improvements, expanded programming, and enhanced amenities. As Golf leagues, Junior programs, and Adult lessons & clinics help grow the game locally; Eagles Bar & Grill and the Event Center provide a full-service experience with dining, social spaces, and a premier setting for weddings, private events, and special occasions of all kinds.

Today, River Oaks Golf Course & Event Center remains as a premier public golf course in Cottage Grove, Minnesota, while also serving as a scenic wedding venue and event center in the Twin Cities region.

As River Oaks celebrates 35 years, its growth reflects a continued commitment to quality, community, and experiences.
