If you’re looking for fun things to do this winter, look no further. River Oaks places value in building relationships with members of our community, and we have multiple evenings in the next few months that you are invited to attend.

From customer appreciation events, shows, and dinners– we want you to join your fellow community members this winter for nights you’ll always remember!

Here are some events happening for the remainder of 2023 that you, your family, and friends can attend:

1. Dinner and Dueling Pianos (Saturday, Nov. 4, Friday, Dec. 8, and Saturday, Dec. 30)

Join us for one of our fan-favorites— the Dueling Pianos! This event is performed by Sweet Keys, and is a great opportunity to enjoy a fun night with your 21+ adult friends and family! This event has dinner and a pre-dinner social included before the show
starts.

Check out the dueling pianos event and enjoy the music with excellent company! This event is starting at $75 plus tax per individual, or save money by claiming a table with a group of 8 for $500 plus tax.

This event is occurring for multiple evenings, so make sure to secure your spot for an evening that works for you and your friends and family! 3. River Oaks’s Friendsgiving Dinner (Friday, Nov. 10)

Are you looking for an event that you can attend with your friends for an amazing dinner? Join us at River Oaks on Friday, Nov. 10 for our Friendsgiving Dinner event! Grab your friends or coworkers and enjoy a family-style meal in good company!

The menu for the Friendsgiving dinner includes holiday favorites like roasted turkey with sage gravy, cornbread stuffing with smoked turkey, a sweet potato casserole, and even some homemade pumpkin pie.

4. Joseph Carr Wine Dinner (Thursday, Nov. 30)

Are you a fan of wine and wine tastings? If you are, or if you’re looking for a great evening with great company, food, and beverages– this is the event for you!

Join us at River Oaks for an evening as we go through a wine tasting of Joseph Carr wines. Each wine is paired perfectly with a dish on our four-course prix-fixe menu, carefully created by Head Chef Isaac Jones.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with a social gathering and butler-passed hors d’oeuvres and a welcome glass of Josh Cellars Prosecco, before you receive your first course at 6 p.m.

It is a four course evening, starting with pistachio crusted scallops over creamy orzo with wilted spinach… delicious, right? The last course finishes out your evening with a mouth watering milk chocolate mousse cake with hazelnut crunch crust.

At River Oaks Golf Course, the resident golf pro brings a wealth of experience to the table. Barrett Boe has given thousands of lessons to golfers of every level, and has been a golf pro for 28 years.

Barrett is a coach, through and through. It was clear during lessons that I was taking lessons from someone who knew how to coach others and bring out their best every lesson. His positive attitude helps golfers unlock their potential, regardless of their skill level.

Lessons with Barrett really showed that he values the fundamentals of the golf swing and makes sure that his students are able to adjust their movements based on their needs. This personal touch to the lessons shows that when working with him you’re not just another hole in the calendar, but a person that he is devoting time and effort to help achieve their goals.

A personalized approach to golf instruction

If you decide to take lessons from River Oaks’s Golf Pro, Barret Boe, PGA, you should expect to have a personalized and tailor-made experience starting the first lesson. During my lessons, I found him to be extremely adaptable and willing to work with me due to some needs that other golfers may not have. Because lessons are such a personal experience, I really value the way the lessons were molded as they worked for me, and I didn’t have to try to adapt to them.

In any sport I’ll always recommend learning from a coach that is willing to break down the complexities and help you through adversity when you’re struggling to get some things right– and that’s Barrett. Starting a new sport is difficult, but it becomes fun when you work with someone who genuinely tries to help you have a positive experience and outcome.

I’ve never golfed before (or, at least anything more than a few holes and a few trips to the driving range), so golf was somewhat of a foreign concept to me. However, I did play other sports like basketball for decades, so it was very humbling to start out as a beginner in something new.

Barrett quickly figured out that if he connected some terms to movements that I would have to make in basketball, it became a lot easier to help me learn the mechanics of the golf swing. It was relieving to know that I wasn’t necessarily starting from completely nothing, and that years of muscle memory could be put to good use in golf.

Because of the personalized approach that Barrett has with his lessons, I will admit it was a lot easier for me to learn during the lessons. Things really were more easy to grasp, and after having a few injuries that limit some movements, it was nice to know that there were ways to compensate for that.

I would 100% recommend River Oaks’s Barrett Boe for lessons any day.

Patient guidance every step of the way

Patience is a virtue, especially when it comes to mastering the intricate art of golf. And, to be honest, Barrett Boe probably had to rally his patience when it came to my frustration.

Golf is not an easy sport, which is something we discussed. You’ll have far more bad shots than good ones, which can be a hard concept to grasp for a perfectionist like me. After playing sports and excelling in them for years, it was a hard lesson to learn when I started to try to golf… and I really didn’t do well.

It was a little embarrassing for me, considering I really didn’t even know how to hold the club properly or what a decent golf swing even looked like. Even in my newborn stage of golf, Barrett worked with me to the point where I was getting some good hits that were used in a scramble tournament after only two lessons.

To be honest, that was only possible because of Barrett’s patience. He provides patient and encouraging guidance throughout every lesson. It’s clear that he understands that everyone progresses at their own pace and supports them in both their triumphs and lows. It is evident that he works to make sure every golfer feels supported, motivated, and inspired to improve their game.

Flexibility and valuing the golfer’s experience

Barrett Boe places immense value on your experience and understands that flexibility is key to effective golf instruction. One thing I think is important in any service industry is the value of time– and in some ways, golf lessons are another facet of the service industry. So, it’s only right that Barrett is pretty flexible and works with his students to find lesson times that work for them.

Obviously, flexibility fluctuates throughout the different seasons, so that’s always something to keep in mind. However, he does show that he values your time and caters to your needs. Barrett is willing to adjust lesson plans, address specific concerns, and provide extra attention where needed. Your success and satisfaction are his top priorities, and he goes above and beyond to ensure your time spent learning is productive, enjoyable, and worthwhile.

I’m not able to keep specific times each week due to my schedule, but Barrett works with me so I can participate in lessons when I am available. It’s nice to know that my busy schedule doesn’t have to dictate what I can and can’t do. Due to his flexibility, I’m able to find time here and there to develop my golf game and start a sport that is quickly becoming a fulfilling hobby.

River Oaks Golf Course has two newly built bocce courts that are ready for you! Bocce ball is a great game for the family, friends, and coworkers. The bocce courts are located next to our outside patio bar that overlooks the scenic 18th hole and Mississippi River.

We introduced bocce ball to our Golf Course to allow more people to experience and enjoy our friendly atmosphere in a competitive environment… even if they don’t know how to golf. At River Oaks, there are many opportunities to play on the bocce courts, including booking private bocce ball events, booking a private bocce ball league, and participating in one of our bocce ball leagues that we host.

Bocce ball is becoming more popular in the Twin Cities Metro, and it’s a great way to socialize with friends and your family. River Oaks included bocce courts to give more people the opportunity to spend time with their friends and family– and a great way to do this is to book a private event with us.

River Oaks allows you to book private events for use of the bocce ball course and adjoining facilities. Private bocce ball events include the bocce ball courts, the outside bar and patio, several bean bag toss games setup, and tents for shade.

Booking a private bocce ball event at River Oaks is a great way to celebrate birthday parties, retirement parties, family reunions, team building opportunities, wedding parties, and so much more! It’s a great location that can host a group size up to 32 people in a tournament format.

Play in River Oaks’ Bocce Ball League

Bocce ball leagues are a great way to participate in a competitive game that everyone can do, meet new people, and enjoy an evening out at River Oaks. At River Oaks, we host bocce ball leagues from Spring to Fall, and have leagues for different evenings and offer leagues for different age groups to get everyone involved.

River Oaks hosts bocce ball leagues on different days of the week depending on the season. Games are played at 5:30pm, The League play consists of pool matchups with the top two teams in each pool playing for the championship. Each season goes for 7 weeks, from spring to fall.

The way River Oaks formats the league games is teams will play the same team for three consecutive games to complete a match. Each game will have a 30 minute time limit, and the team that scores exactly 12 points first wins the game.

All teams in the league must have a minimum of two players with a maximum of 4 players. Players on the same team alternate turns and will have a maximum of 4 players each night. A maximum of 8 teams per league night is able to register, so make sure to register quickly once you get your team together!

Book a Private Bocce Ball League

At River Oaks, we believe in celebrating our community, friends, and having a great time while enjoying some friendly competition. If you are looking for a way to involve your friends and community by starting your own private bocce ball league, look no further!

At River Oaks, you can host a league at our courts and amenities! We have two bocce ball courts that are located by the 18th hole, overlooking the Mississippi River Valley, and they are ready to go for any private bocce ball league. We also have an outdoor patio bar that is available for use for your league, adjacent to the courts.

We are able to provide you with recommendations for running your league, although you can make the league what you want. At River Oaks, we will ensure that everything goes off smoothly for you during your season and help make it a night a week that people look forward to.
